  3. Stitch the two instrumentals. Match levels. Rock section is louder; skip this step and your cover jumps like a bad DJ mix.

Some radio edits sit under five minutes depending on version — check file duration before you spend time splitting. A 320 kbps MP3 of the full song is usually 12–14 MB, under our 15 MB cap. Workflow (so you don't burn the afternoon)

Start with a real file. CD rip, store download, something you actually own. YouTube rips add extra compression and weird stereo — separation gets worse for free.

Test 30 seconds of the rock part first. Export ~0:30–1:00 around “carry on, carry on.” If drums sound underwater there, running the full six minutes won't save you.

Light cleanup beats re-running five times. High-pass if bass got muddy. Small cut around 2–4 kHz on ghost vocals. Don't brick-wall the stem — you'll just hiss.

Opera block unusable? Cut it and sing it live. Everyone knows that part.

What “good enough” means

Bedroom practice: intro + rock + outro instrumental is usually fine.

YouTube cover: plenty of uploaders run a separator instrumental under a live vocal and live with bleed in the quiet intro. Content ID and sync rights are your problem — we process audio, we don't grant YouTube clearance.
